The Grocery
The Grocery began in Shoreditch with a simple idea: great food should come from people who care.
Over 20 years ago, two friends from school – raised in the countryside of Norfolk, surrounded by farms, seasons and real ingredients – set out to make it easier for Londoners to find food made with integrity. What started as a passion for natural living grew into a shop and community that champions small, independent producers and the kind of farming and production that puts soil, animals and flavour first.
Since 2006 we’ve specialised in natural, organic and biodynamic foods, choosing products that are made with as little intervention as possible. That means prioritising producers who work with nature rather than against it -those who avoid intensive methods, unnecessary additives, and heavy processing, and who focus on simple, thoughtful craft.
Our approach: low intervention, high standards
We look for foods that keep their character – foods that haven’t been pushed, stripped back, or over-engineered. Whether it’s a loaf, a bottle, a jar or a cut of cheese, we’re interested in:
- responsible farming and sourcing
- traditional or minimal processing methods
- ingredients you can recognise
- producers who value quality over shortcuts
We’re proud to support businesses that are still hands-on: the growers, makers and farmers who put care into every step.
Rooted in Shoreditch, built with customers
From our base in Shoreditch, we’ve served millions of customers over the years – locals, visitors, chefs, families, and curious food lovers who want to eat well and shop consciously. Many people have been with us from the start, and we’ve grown alongside the neighbourhood, staying true to what brought us here: honest food and good relationships.
More than a shop
The Grocery has always been about connection – between customer and producer, city and countryside, tradition and modern life. We’re here to make good choices easier, to introduce you to new makers doing things the right way, and to keep raising the bar for what “everyday groceries” can be.
If you’re shopping with us, you’re supporting a network of independent producers who believe in careful farming, respectful production and food that tastes like it should.
Thank you for being part of our story and we look forward to delivering your groceries.
